Medical Marijuana: Facts and Development

The idea of ‘Medical Marijuana’ has been revolving around the internet for quite some time. Through various articles and claims are supporting the medical benefits of Marijuana, some scientists and doctors claim that there are very few or no uses of medical marijuana, for it to be used in pharmacies. With marijuana being legal in California, one can easily get their hands on marijuana once they spot a California dispensary that sells them.

Marijuana – Facts

To give you a gist about medical marijuana, marijuana is originally extracted from the plant - Cannabis sativa. This plant contains 100+ chemical compounds known as cannabinoids, which will react with the human brain and nerve cells to produce the ‘high’ feel.

The popular term ‘THC’ known as tetrahydrocannabinol is the main compound that gives the high feeling.

If you didn’t know, in the District of Columbia, medical marijuana has been approved in about 28 states. But, approval from doctors and researchers are yet to come to confirm the medical uses of marijuana. Several studies are being conducted regarding it and the results are awaited.

Even the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved medications based on THC, which are recommended in pill forms to patients. They will be used for treatments related to cancer and chemotherapy to increase health in patients.

In Canada, the UK, and some more European countries, various medications based on marijuana have been approved for practice. Some are under clinical trials. After THC, CBD is the next popular chemical compound in marijuana that is used for treating neuropathic pain.

Development

One of the primary reasons for countries not coming forward to accept medical marijuana is the high chance for it to get abused. This is why many do not want indulging in studying or developing medical marijuana for wide use. The Drug Enforcement Agency has to approve for researchers and scientists to conduct clinical trials.

According to some findings that are based on experiments on animals, medical marijuana might help to treat age based ailments like nausea, chronic pain, vomiting, etc.

If medical marijuana comes to widespread use shortly, it might be prescribed in different dosages according to the health issue reported. Light dosages will be recommended for treatments, while a high dosage will induce a high feel to patients.

Ways to intake medical marijuana

Unlike other medical drugs, marijuana can be taken in various ways. It can be taken through smoking or pill forms or through mixing with tea or food. Inhaling marijuana vapors is also one of the ways to take medical marijuana. You can find them in a Marijuana dispensary in California.

One has to consult the doctor and get personal advice from the doctor before taking medical marijuana in any form. Do not get blindfolded by claims you find on the internet. As health issues vary from person to person, even medical marijuana should be handled with precaution and care, as improper dosage may lead to serious side effects or health implications. Dry mouth, altered mental function, heart, and blood pressure issues are some of the side effects of marijuana.
